Dr. Becky Van Iersel, VP Clinical, North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network (NSM LHIN)

North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network’s Dr. Becky Van Iersel is now a member of the Ontario Quality Standards Committee of Health Quality Ontario (HQO). The Committee is comprised of patients and informal caregivers, physicians, nurses, senior administrators and other health care experts and stakeholders.

This committee plays a key role in advancing HQO’s quality standards program, while also playing a broader role in Ontario’s health care system. This means working collaboratively to recommend ways in which Health Quality Ontario’s quality standards and other clinical care standards can become reality.

I’m excited by the opportunity to bring a smaller community and family medicine perspective to the quality standards development,” said Dr. Van Iersel. “The way in which we can implement these standards and the issues that are important in our communities are different than in large, urban and academic centres. I think I can bring a practical, pragmatic voice to the work to ensure that it makes a difference for how providers are able to provide care and ultimately for the care that patients receive in our region.”

This is why the committee works with patients and the public, clinicians, organizations across Ontario’s health system, along with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care – for a more centralized, integrated and systematic approach to quality health care.
