North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN Local Leadership Councils
The North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is pleased to share with you information on the five new Local Leadership Councils being established in each of the geographic areas within the LHIN:
- Barrie and Area
- Collingwood and Area
- Midland / Penetanguishene and Area
- Muskoka
- Orillia and Area
Aligning strategically, each Local Leadership Council is accountable to the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN Leadership Council. The LHIN Leadership Council’s purpose is to provide strategic advice to the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN Chief Executive Officer on issues related to the design and realization of an integrated health system in North Simcoe Muskoka.
Each Local Leadership Council will be the local champion in moving the strategic priorities identified in the Integrated Health Service Plan (IHSP) of the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN forward:
- Improving access to appropriate care, beginning with the emergency room and alternate level of care settings in the community or home
- Improving chronic disease management, beginning with access to integrated diabetes care
- Creating an integrated design for the future health system in North Simcoe Muskoka
The role of the Local Council will be to act as an advisory body and make recommendations to the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN Leadership Council for improving the local area health system for individuals and their families along the continuum of care.
The rationale for the creation of these new Councils aligns with the new organizational structure of the LHN in the following areas:
- Strategic Alignment: Will allow the LHIN and health system partners to deliver on current strategic priorities and adapt to future needs.
- Communication & Integration: Will enhance communication at the local and regional level through changes to structure and a number of integrating mechanisms (i.e. North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN Leadership Council, Local Leadership Councils, and LHIN Geographic Leads).
- Effective Use of Resources: Will support the combination of expertise throughout the LHIN to best meet the requirements of initiatives and effective use of resources to meet the demands.
- Geographic & Project Accountability: Dedicates resources to each of the five geographic areas and creates enhanced clarity around accountability to priorities and projects.
Membership will include a wide range of health system partners who will balance a comprehensive and detailed understanding of local health needs with the mandate to achieve the IHSP strategic priorities.
